Description
The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) administers the statewide Commuter Assistance Program (CAP) through two funding opportunities. Operating Assistance supports local and regional programs offering services such as ridematching, trip planning, commuter information, Guaranteed or Emergency Ride Home, and promotion of travel options. Project Assistance supports local, regional, and statewide efforts including employer trip reduction, vanpool assistance, transit marketing, and other transportation demand management projects.
CAP aims to increase shared travel while reducing congestion, single-occupant vehicle trips, vehicle miles traveled, air pollution, and fuel costs. Project Assistance is competitive and seeks measurable increases in transit, carpool, vanpool, or bicycle commuting.
