The Competitive Research Grant Program is sponsored by the South Dakota Board of Regents and administered through South Dakota EPSCoR. It helps early-career faculty develop their research and educational careers by generating preliminary data that strengthens their ability to pursue and secure external funding.
The program aims to expand academic research, build statewide research and STEM education capacity, increase externally supported university research connected to technology-based economic development, and support new commercial development opportunities. Preference is given to STEM education and workforce development proposals and research aligned with South Dakota’s Science and Innovation Strategy. Projects are expected to position the lead investigator for competitive extramural funding through specific plans to leverage the grant’s results.
