Description
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) administers this federally funded grant to strengthen evidence-based literacy instruction, particularly in divisions and student groups with the greatest need. The 2026–2027 cycle supports two opportunities: Family Engagement Literacy Resources for Birth through Kindergarten Entry and the Literacy Improvement Network.
The family engagement opportunity provides student-tailored books and resources for Pre-K and Kindergarten children, aligned with their needs and classroom instruction. The network provides school and division leadership teams with training in effective literacy practices, educator collaboration, and observation and feedback cycles. Beginning with the 2026–2029 cycle, divisions apply for a three-year award rather than submitting a new competitive application each year.
