Description
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine runs this multi-year program to strengthen scientific communities in Latin America and the Caribbean. Working with the Inter-American Network of Academies of Sciences and the Academy of Sciences of Latin America, it provides scientific resources, professional development, and connections for early- and mid-career researchers. Its goals include keeping researchers connected to research frontiers, strengthening cross-disciplinary collaboration, and preparing scientists, engineers, and medical professionals for leadership.
The program combines ACALConecta, an online repository of scientific courses, resources, events, and researcher information, with yearly meetings and participant travel fellowships. Meetings feature capacity-building workshops, transdisciplinary scientific exchanges, and research poster sessions. They connect emerging leaders primarily from Latin America and the Caribbean with counterparts in the United States and Canada, guided by regional needs and an advisory committee.
