The Virginia Museum of History & Culture (VMHC) offers the Conrad M. Hall Fellowship Program to promote the interpretation of Virginia history and access to its collections. The fellowships support four-week research visits in the museum’s research library, helping scholars defray travel expenses while undertaking sustained, on-site work.
The program covers the broad sweep of Virginia and American history, with preference for topics drawing on collection strengths: colonial history, antebellum history and slavery, the Civil War and Reconstruction, Black history, and business and economic history. Proposals must demonstrate their connection to the collections through citations to specific sources. Research promising significant publication, including in the Virginia Magazine of History & Biography, receives primary consideration.
