    Description

The Carl & Marilynn Thoma Foundation Conservation Grant supports conservation projects and research initiatives focused on South American viceregal art. It funds preventive conservation, restoration of artworks needing care, laboratory equipment, and preservation or conservation workshops and symposia. Projects may range from early planning and individual studies to advanced implementation, with the goal of preserving historical artworks and safeguarding this heritage.

An international jury of experts selects proposals with the potential to contribute significantly to preservation and conservation. The program emphasizes connections to existing work, advances in conservation knowledge and practice, and contributions to humanities research, education, or public programming. International applicants, particularly those from Latin America, are strongly encouraged to apply. Grantees are expected to disseminate their results throughout conservation and art history, including to local groups and the wider community.
