Description
Vermont’s Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) is a voluntary state and federal program administered by the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets. It compensates agricultural landowners for taking land out of production to reduce sediment runoff and improve water quality.
The program supports forested buffers, vegetated filter strips, wetland restoration and grassed waterways, along with practices such as fencing, alternative livestock water systems and stream crossings. Buffers filter agricultural runoff, stabilize streambanks and can provide wildlife habitat and shade for waterways.
