Consolidator Grant supports researchers building or strengthening independent teams in Europe, funding ambitious frontier research across all fields to address scientific questions and advance knowledge.

Funding Amounts: Up to €2 million for 5 years, plus up to €1 million additional funding (€2 million for eligible relocating researchers)
Summary: Supports frontier research in any field by researchers consolidating an independent research team or programme in Europe.
Key Information: Principal Investigators must devote at least 40% of working time to the project and 50% to work in the EU or an Associated Country.
Description
The European Research Council’s Consolidator Grant supports excellent researchers establishing an independent research team or strengthening one recently created. Funded through Horizon Europe and administered by the European Research Council Executive Agency (ERCEA), it supports ambitious, ground-breaking frontier research across life sciences, physical and engineering sciences, and social sciences and humanities. There are no predetermined thematic priorities, and interdisciplinary, pioneering and unconventional approaches are welcomed.
Projects are headed by a single Principal Investigator (PI), who should already demonstrate research independence. In fields where individual research is customary, the team may consist solely of the PI. Scientific excellence is the sole evaluation criterion, assessed through both the proposed research and the investigator’s intellectual capacity, creativity and ability to execute the project.
