Description
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), through its Brownfields and Redevelopment Unit, funds investigation and cleanup of soil, soil vapor, and groundwater contamination at developed sites. Publicly or privately owned sites may qualify when contamination creates a costly barrier to redevelopment. Supported work can include developing and carrying out a response action plan (RAP), environmental consulting, and cleanup; related acquisition, demolition, or public improvements may be part of a project when needed to implement the RAP.
The program seeks redevelopment that reduces threats to health and the environment and produces public benefits. DEED considers increased property tax base, jobs, public facilities, removal of blight, project readiness, the likelihood of cleanup without government funding, and local financial commitment.
