Description
This program provides matching grants to state and territorial agencies for the acquisition of land or permanent conservation easements that benefit federally listed, candidate, or at-risk species under approved Habitat Conservation Plans (HCPs). The goal is to promote species recovery, prevent extinction, and support voluntary conservation efforts by securing high-quality habitat in perpetuity. Land acquired through these grants must complement, but not replace, the mitigation or monitoring commitments of the associated HCPs. The program encourages projects that support both single-species and multi-species HCPs, with at least 10% of funds dedicated to single-species plans.
