Description
The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) offers these competitive grants through its State Conservation Commission. Projects must provide a natural resource conservation benefit to South Dakota. Funded work has included windbreaks for wildlife habitat and erosion control, livestock water developments that protect riparian areas, waterway construction and seeding, and rangeland and pastureland improvements.
Other examples include watershed assessments and water quality improvements, no-till cropping incentives, and biological weed control where conventional methods could damage resources or cannot reach an area. Most funded projects also include an information or education element. These examples are not a complete list of eligible approaches.
