Cornerstone Grants support graduate medical trainees and students conducting research with histochemical and related techniques to foster early-career interest in histochemistry and its research uses.
Funder: The Histochemical Society
Due Dates (Anticipated): June 2027 (Application deadline)
Funding Amounts: $3,250 for direct research costs (2025 amount); approximately one year
Summary: Supports graduate medical trainees and graduate students conducting research using histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, or related techniques.
Key Information: Awardees must be Histochemical Society members before funds are disbursed to their institutions.
The Histochemical Society’s Cornerstone Grants encourage early-career clinicians and scientists to develop an interest in histochemistry and histochemical-based research techniques. The program supports graduate medical trainees, graduate students, and combined-degree students conducting research involving immunohistochemistry, histochemical techniques, in situ hybridization, or related methods. Basic, applied, translational, and clinical research proposals are eligible.
The program emphasizes effective and correct use of these techniques and their necessity to completing the proposed research. Reviewers also consider the significance of the research question and whether the laboratory environment, equipment, institutional support, and mentoring make successful completion likely. Recipients conduct approximately one year of research and disseminate their findings through a scientific manuscript report and a conference abstract.
