This initiative aims to reinvigorate the role of the humanities in undergraduate general education at accredited colleges and universities. Inspired by the Cornerstone model at Purdue University, the program supports the creation of gateway courses anchored in transformative texts, fostering shared intellectual experiences among students and faculty. The initiative encourages institutions to design coherent curricular pathways that connect humanistic inquiry to students’ professional and personal goals, strengthen communication and critical thinking skills, and build campus community. Both planning and implementation grants are available to help institutions of all types redesign general education, making the humanities central to undergraduate education and ensuring students from all backgrounds engage deeply with enduring human questions.
