Summary: Supports early AI prototypes and AI-enabled scholarship that strengthen human autonomy, truth-seeking, and human judgment.
Cosmos Institute provides fast funding for builders developing early AI prototypes, alongside support for researchers experimenting with AI-enabled scholarship. The program connects practical development with philosophical questions about what AI should help people do and become. Its priorities include preserving human judgment, empowering open inquiry, and strengthening people’s ability to decide how to live rather than deferring those decisions to AI.
The AI for Truth-Seeking strand, delivered with FIRE, supports open contestation of ideas and human judgment in knowledge production. AI and Human Autonomy backs work that reduces excessive deference to AI and supports self-formation. AI-accelerated Scholarship, delivered with IHS, supports research and experimentation that deepen scholarship, broaden audiences, accelerate discovery, and refine the role of judgment in academic work.
