Cottrell Scholar Regional Meetings

Description

This opportunity provides funding for Cottrell Scholars and Holland Awardees to organize one-day regional meetings at their institutions. The meetings are intended to strengthen the Cottrell Scholar community, promote collaboration, and increase awareness of Cottrell Scholar opportunities, especially among underrepresented groups and minority-serving institutions. Both research and education themes are welcome, and meetings should appeal to a broad cross-section of the scientific community, including non-CS faculty, postdocs, and students.

Up to four meetings are funded annually, with a goal of supporting two at primarily undergraduate institutions (PUIs) and two at research universities. Special consideration is given to applications that focus on research at PUIs and education at research universities. Organizers are encouraged to ensure diverse attendance and to include participants from both types of institutions.

Applications are also accepted for recurrent meetings (up to three consecutive years) to build sustained regional communities. Meetings must include information about the Cottrell Scholar Program in their agenda.

Due Dates

• Applications are accepted on a rolling basis; there is no fixed deadline.
• Funding is available for up to four meetings per year.

Funding Amount

• Up to $5,000 per meeting.
• Funding covers allowable meeting expenses such as food, beverage, travel (especially for speakers and participants lacking resources), advertising, and space rental/supplies.
• Recurrent meetings (up to three years) are eligible, with a brief continuation application required for subsequent years.

Eligibility

• Applicants must be Cottrell Scholars or Holland Awardees.
• Meetings must be hosted at a U.S. institution.
• Organizers are encouraged to collaborate with co-organizers, especially for recurrent or rotating meetings.
• Priority is given to:
  • Meetings at primarily undergraduate institutions (PUIs) and research universities.
  • Applications that promote research at PUIs and education at research universities.
  • Meetings that include outreach to underrepresented groups and minority-serving institutions.

Application Process

• Applications can be submitted at any time via the RCSA PRISM portal.
• Select "Cottrell Scholar Regional Meetings" as the program.
• A budget (up to $5,000) must be included, detailing allowable expenses.
• The meeting agenda must include information about the Cottrell Scholar Program (e.g., Q&A, panel, keynote, or RCSA representative).
• For recurrent meetings, a brief continuation application is required for years two and three.
• Organizers may seek planning/logistics support from RCSA and past meeting organizers.

• There should be no registration fee for the meeting.
• Priority for travel support should be given to underrepresented groups, faculty, and postdocs at PUIs and minority-serving institutions.
