Description
County Aid is administered by the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s Division of Local Aid and Economic Development. It provides annual allotments to counties for public roads and bridges under county jurisdiction, public transportation, and other transportation projects. Projects advance through each county’s approved Annual Transportation Program (ATP), with funding distributed on a project-by-project basis. The program supports transportation safety, infrastructure renewal, and new transportation opportunities.
Supported improvements can address pedestrians, bicyclists, emergency vehicles, and automobiles. For example, Camden County used County Aid for a Complete Streets project along 1.9 miles of Chapel Avenue in Cherry Hill Township. Work included bicycle lanes, ADA-compliant curb ramps, traffic signal improvements, and narrower travel lanes to reduce speeds and improve pedestrian and bicycle access.
