    Description

CPWR’s Small Study Program supports preliminary, short-term research and practical initiatives to reduce construction worker injuries, illnesses, and fatalities. Studies can demonstrate the viability of larger projects, test research approaches, or produce useful stand-alone results. Support comes through CPWR’s cooperative agreement with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and a charitable contribution from the McElhattan Foundation.

The program prioritizes high-risk groups, especially small employers with 19 or fewer employees and residential and light commercial construction. It emphasizes immediately actionable interventions, stakeholder partnerships, emerging and persistent hazards, and widespread adoption of evidence-based practices. Supported work can include basic or applied science, exploratory methods, prevention and intervention research, research-to-practice, technology transfer, feasibility studies, and policy research.
