Creative Engagement is part of Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Manhattan Arts Grants program. It supports artists and nonprofit organizations presenting public arts activities throughout Manhattan, from Inwood to the Battery. Supported work includes concerts, performances, public art, exhibitions, screenings, festivals, workshops, and readings, including participatory and socially engaged projects.
The program encourages projects generated within and serving communities with limited access to arts resources because of location, race, language, economic status, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion, or disability. Work rooted in Manhattan’s Black, Indigenous, and immigrant communities is especially encouraged. Funding comes from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA), New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), and Howard Gilman Foundation (HGF), and is intended for applicants unable to access these funders directly.
