Description
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) administers this program with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency (USDA-RMA) and participating insurance providers. It provides a rebate on a producer’s crop insurance premium bill for verified acres planted to cover crops before an insurable crop is planted the following growing season.
Created in 2022, the program is intended to encourage cover-crop acres beyond those supported by DATCP or USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service programs. DATCP verifies enrolled acreage and forwards approved applications to USDA-RMA so the rebate can be applied through the crop insurance system.
