Description
The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection’s Nonpoint Source Program administers Clean Water Act Section 319(h) grants to improve Nevada’s watersheds and protect waters from nonpoint source pollution. Funding supports watershed-based plans focused on pollution reduction, as well as implementation projects that mitigate pollution or protect waters against it.
Nonpoint source pollution occurs when rain, snowmelt, and irrigation water carry contaminants from developed or disturbed land into waterways, directly or through storm drains. These contaminants include oil, sediment, pesticides, bacteria, and nutrients. The program emphasizes water quality restoration and educating citizens about how they can help reduce pollution.
