The Dam Removal Grant Program supports dam owners and those removing abandoned dams with planning, removal, and impoundment restoration work to complete dam removal projects in Wisconsin.

Funding Amounts: 100% of eligible costs, up to $50,000; projects completed within two years of application

Key Information: The same dam removal cannot receive grants from both this program and the Municipal Dam Grant Program.
Description
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Dam Removal Grant Program supports removal of dams by their owners and removal of dams declared abandoned under Wisconsin law. It reimburses work directly related to planning the removal, removing the structure, and restoring the impoundment afterward. Eligible costs can include related labor, materials, equipment, engineering and planning.
The program accepts applications continually and funds complete, eligible applications in order of receipt until available funds are obligated. Applicants seeking to remove an abandoned dam must have legal access to the property for that purpose.
