The David Louie Scholarship is administered by the RTDNA Foundation, the educational arm of the Radio Television Digital News Association, to further a young journalist’s education. It supports full-time Northwestern/Medill students pursuing careers in radio, television, or digital journalism, including eligible undergraduate and graduate students. Preference is given to applicants of Asian American descent.
David Louie established the scholarship in 2022 to mark his 50th anniversary at ABC. He received the Foundation’s first scholarship in 1970 while studying at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. In addition to educational funding, the recipient is invited to Washington, D.C., for the Foundation’s First Amendment Awards and a day of professional-development training and networking with industry leaders.
