Description
The David R. Coates Fund for Vermont Disaster Relief is a permanent resource managed by the Vermont Community Foundation (VCF). It provides swift, flexible support for Vermont communities affected by natural disasters, balancing immediate relief with long-term recovery and greater preparedness. The fund builds on the retired Vermont Disaster Recovery Fund and lessons from the VT Flood Response & Recovery Fund.
VCF works with local, regional, and state nonprofit organizations and municipalities providing on-the-ground response and ongoing recovery support. The fund’s work includes relief for individuals and families, recovery for businesses and farms, rebuilding homes, infrastructure, and community spaces, and capacity-building initiatives that strengthen disaster readiness. Its goal is to help Vermont communities respond quickly, recover, and become more resilient to future disasters.
