Description
The Deadwood Fund Grant is administered by the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), a program of the South Dakota State Historical Society. Funded through a portion of Deadwood gaming revenue, it helps individuals, organizations, and public agencies preserve historic properties throughout South Dakota for residential, commercial, or public purposes.
The program supports retaining, restoring, and rehabilitating historic buildings, structures, and archaeological sites while enabling contemporary uses that preserve their significant historic, architectural, and cultural features. Application categories include rehabilitation, restoration and stabilization, architectural designs, feasibility studies and preservation plans, and property acquisition. Competitive awards focus on critical projects with an evident need for additional funds, substantial public preservation benefits, and the potential to improve or prevent the loss of historic properties.
