Description
The Deerfield River Enhancement Fund supports watershed conservation and low-impact recreational and educational facilities in the Deerfield River Watershed, including their planning, design, maintenance, and monitoring. The Vermont Community Foundation and the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts jointly manage the fund, established in 1999 by USGen New England, now known as Great River Hydro.
Grants support new initiatives, one-time special projects, and continuation of outstanding existing programs. Examples include volunteer monitoring, trail work, events, field trips, educational workshops, media campaigns, and public access improvements. Outdoor education funding may cover curriculum development, student travel, interpretive materials, and signs. Projects must deliver clear public benefits and enhance recreational, environmental education, or environmental protection opportunities directly related to the watershed.
