This funding opportunity supports pilot projects as the initial de-risking step for developing local or regional industrial Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) clusters. The focus is on decarbonising hard-to-abate industries through detailed technical planning, demonstration of key system components, and identification of clustering potential among regional CO₂ emitters. Projects should also optimize industrial symbiosis, develop tools for cluster design and operation, assess economic and technical feasibility for multimodal CO₂ transport, create business models for regional CO₂ networks, and address geological storage options.

A strong emphasis is placed on engaging societal stakeholders and end users to ensure public acceptability, integrating social sciences and humanities (SSH) expertise to address societal needs and concerns. Projects are expected to deliver comprehensive studies leading to permitting and scenarios for integrating CO₂ infrastructure with broader energy networks.
