Description
The Ohio Commission on Minority Health funds innovative, culturally specific projects designed for a particular community. Demonstration Grants address diseases, conditions, or associated risk factors responsible for excess premature deaths in that community. The Commission’s focus is health promotion, prevention, and risk reduction—not treatment.
Projects use the attitudes, values, and beliefs of the people they serve to promote behavior change, with a methodology that produces measurable outcomes. The program also aims to make effective, culturally appropriate approaches a lasting part of the healthcare delivery system. The Commission’s six prevention priority areas are cancer, cardiovascular disease and hypertension, diabetes, infant mortality, substance abuse, and violence.
