Description
This Horizon Europe Innovation Action funds demonstration projects that establish fully sustainable regional value chains for solid biofuels, derived from upgraded biogenic residues and wastes, for use in high-efficiency combined heat and power (CHP) plants (10–30 MWe). Projects must address long-term, cost-effective, and low-emission baseload operation, with minimal impact on other bio-based value chains, biodiversity, soil, water, and air quality, verified through comprehensive life cycle analysis.
Proposals should feature innovative preprocessing and supply chain solutions, actively involve local feedstock providers, and demonstrate measurable reductions in greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions in operational CHP plants. The grant emphasizes strong business cases, scalability, and replicability, including support for Ukraine's reconstruction. Integration of social sciences and humanities (SSH), as well as gender-sensitive and intersectional approaches, is required to ensure inclusive and sustainable bioenergy solutions.
