Description
Florida’s Diesel Emissions Mitigation Program (DEMP), administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), uses Volkswagen Settlement funds and EPA Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) State Grant Program funds to reduce emissions from mobile sources. Volkswagen-funded activities follow Florida’s Beneficiary Mitigation Plan, which addresses excess nitrogen oxides emissions caused by certain Volkswagen vehicles operating without legally required emissions controls.
The truck opportunities support replacement of older diesel municipal service trucks, port drayage trucks, and Class 4–7 garbage trucks. Funding priorities emphasize disaster recovery and resiliency planning, communities disproportionately affected by severe weather, and rural areas of opportunity. Other DEMP initiatives have supported electric transit and school buses, marine vessels and engines, switcher locomotives, and DC fast electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
