Description
The Dennis W. Jahnigen Memorial Award is an annual honor presented by the American Geriatrics Society (AGS) to a member who has provided leadership in training students in geriatrics and contributed significantly to advancing geriatrics education in health professions schools. It recognizes educational accomplishments rather than funding a research project or a specific proposed initiative. Teaching expertise and educational program development are valued in selecting the recipient.
The award commemorates Dennis W. Jahnigen, MD (1947–1998), an acclaimed teacher who received numerous awards from students and faculty. AGS honored his distinguished career in geriatrics education with the Milo D. Leavitt Award in 1998. The memorial award reflects his legacy of teaching, mentorship, clinical skill, and compassionate concern for older adults.
