    Description

This opportunity supports translational research projects that move promising ideas in spinal cord injury (SCI) research toward clinical application. The FY26 Spinal Cord Injury Research Program (SCIRP) Translational Research Award (TRA) is designed to bridge the gap between laboratory discoveries and their implementation in clinical practice, with the goal of improving outcomes for individuals with SCI, including military service members, veterans, and civilians. Projects must address at least one SCIRP program priority area: acute injury intervention, secondary health effects, psychosocial well-being, or rehabilitation and regeneration.

    Distinctive features include:

    • An Early-Career Partnership Option, allowing two PIs (one must be early-career).
    • Requirement to engage at least one SCI community partner (e.g., lived-experience consultant or representative from a community-based organization) throughout the project.
    • Support for both preclinical and clinical research, including pilot clinical trials as part of the proposed research.
