Description
The Skin of Color Society (SOCS) provides annual research grants to advance dermatology research in skin of color and help dermatologists further their academic careers. The program supports clinical and translational research, as well as basic science with clinical applications. Relevant work includes investigations of skin diseases, biological mechanisms, assessment tools, and treatments affecting people with skin of color.
Previously supported projects have examined erythema imaging, scarring alopecia, cutaneous lupus, lymphoma, pigmentation, and treatments for melasma, keloids, and vitiligo. The SOCS Research Committee reviews applications, recommends funding, and monitors the grants program. Awardees share their findings through the Society’s newsletter and annual meeting.
