Description

This grant supports research and innovation projects aimed at developing novel biotechnological solutions for recycling complex plastic materials, including multi-material, multi-layer, and composite plastics. Target sectors include packaging, construction, renewable energy infrastructure, and transport. Projects should deliver recommendations for regulatory risk assessments, integrate the Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design framework, and leverage cutting-edge material innovations such as the use of microbes and enzymes for advanced plastic degradation. Solutions must be demonstrated at pilot scale, engaging the entire value chain and evaluating economic, environmental, and social impacts through robust methods like lifecycle assessment. Collaboration across industrial value chains and clustering with other Horizon Europe projects is strongly encouraged.
