This state-funded, non-competitive program supports fire investigations and Community Risk Reduction (CRR) across New York State for state fiscal years 2025, 2026, and 2027. Managed by the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) Grants Program Administration, it aims to strengthen local fire investigation units and help counties launch or expand CRR initiatives. Projects may address either area or combine both.
The program links investigation findings with proactive prevention strategies. Its priorities include developing investigative capabilities, improving investigator health and safety through equipment and training, and conducting community risk assessments. CRR efforts use incident and demographic data, local trends, and community engagement to identify hazards and vulnerable populations, target prevention activities, and reduce fires and fatalities.
