Key Information: Papers must undergo peer review before final acceptance for publication.
The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation’s Diasporan Perspectives call supports in-depth, academic and non-partisan research on Armenia’s transformation since independence, reaching back to the Karabakh Movement of 1988. It expands an earlier Foundation-supported research project that produced two publications on the Second Karabakh War. The call examines the structural roots of the upheavals of 2018, 2020 and 2023, whether the Velvet Revolution changed Armenia’s socio-economic structure, and how institutions and decision-making evolved.
Research covers three phases: Soviet collapse and independence, including political transition and mass privatisation; two decades of stabilisation and oligarchic rule; and the period of revolution, war and uncertainty since 2018. Proposals may address political elites, structures and discourses; the state and its institutions; infrastructure; or future trends. The 34 suggested topics are indicative, and other research themes are welcome.
