Description
The German Research Foundation (DFG) runs this programme within its Scientific Library Services and Information Systems (LIS) funding. It supports digitisation and indexing of holdings and collections of nationwide research importance, helping build efficient research information systems across Germany. Materials include handwritten and printed documents, museum objects, audiovisual media, born-digital works and image datasets.
The programme also supports quality criteria and best-practice guidelines where established standards are lacking, newer methods such as OCR, layout recognition, handwritten text recognition, automatic image recognition, named-entity recognition and 3D digitisation, and expansion of material-specific or subject portals. Virtual consolidation of collections across institutions and disciplines is supported where it stimulates research. Permanent storage, open access, findability, interoperability and reuse are central to the programme.
