This programme funds the establishment and expansion of discipline-specific information services (Fachinformationsdienste, FID) that enable researchers based in Germany to access specialized literature and research-specific information quickly and directly, regardless of their location. The services are aligned to the unique needs of particular research subject areas and are intended to provide added value beyond the basic functions of university and research institution libraries. Strategic aims include fostering collaboration, interoperability, and standards across the network of FIDs, as well as supporting joint development and reuse of technologies. The programme is designed to complement local infrastructures and promote a cohesive, cooperative information environment for the German academic community.
