The British Heart Foundation’s Discovery Research Early Career Fellowship supports exceptional early career researchers undertaking outstanding, hypothesis-testing research with potential to improve outcomes for patients with cardiovascular disease. It provides a platform to broaden research horizons and begin developing distinct research leadership, combining project support with scientific training and professional development.
The scheme welcomes non-clinician scientists from cardiovascular research and those transitioning from other disciplines or industry, alongside career re-entry and international candidates. Relevant disciplines include bench-based discovery science, epidemiology, data science, genetics, engineering and behavioural science. Academic advisors provide scientific guidance, while mentors can offer independent career advice. Fellows may also spend time overseas or at a second UK institution where this benefits their research, training or development.
