Description
The Discovery Research Future Leaders Fellowship from the British Heart Foundation (BHF) is designed to empower high-potential, non-clinician scientists to become independent leaders in cardiovascular research. The fellowship provides substantial, long-term funding (up to 7 years) for researchers to lead their own projects and teams at a UK institution with strong cardiovascular research infrastructure.
The scheme welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds, including those returning from industry or a career break, and is open to international researchers who have been working outside the UK for at least 3 years. Fellows must demonstrate a strong trajectory toward research independence, supported by a senior academic advisor and, optionally, mentors. The award may be undertaken part-time and can include research at a secondary institution, either within the UK or overseas.
Fellows are expected to develop their own research vision and benefit from career development support, including pathways to tenured academic positions.
