Description
The British Heart Foundation’s Discovery Research PhD Studentships support three-year doctoral investigations alongside training in the scientific techniques needed to carry out the research. The scheme combines a student stipend and tuition support with project-related resources and opportunities to present research or attend relevant scientific meetings, within BHF’s mission to prevent, diagnose and treat heart and circulatory conditions.
Applications are built around an original hypothesis, supported by background information and pilot data, an experimental design, power calculations, and an explanation of the expected value of the results. An established investigator applies as supervisor for a named student. BHF also considers studentships involving research experience with an industry partner. Funding decisions are made by the Discovery Research Fellowships Committee after consideration of external peer review reports.
