Description
The Rural Sociological Society (RSS) supports Ph.D. dissertation research that advances rural sociology and fosters the development of future rural sociologists. The competition covers any topic encompassed by the field, rather than focusing on a single subject area. It is Society-wide, and research and interest groups are encouraged to nominate candidates.
The program connects graduate research support with applicants’ continuing work in rural sociology. Applications must explain how the research will influence the applicant’s future work and present a well-defined problem, relevant literature, research methods, and a work-plan schedule. A faculty support letter must address the project’s intellectual significance and the likelihood that dissertation work will be actively pursued during the academic year of the award.
