Description
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) supports basic science and applied research that increases understanding of suicide or tests treatments and other life-saving interventions. Distinguished Investigator Innovation Grants support established suicide researchers pursuing a new line of research, as well as established investigators newly entering suicide prevention. Work may examine causes and risk factors, test preventive interventions, assess treatment feasibility, or add a distinct suicide component to an already funded project.
Investigators from all academic disciplines may apply. Projects must centrally address suicide or suicide prevention and include at least one suicide outcome measure. AFSP welcomes all suicide prevention proposals, with priority consideration in 2024–2026 for strong research addressing ethnic and racial diversity, understudied populations or settings with elevated suicide rates, and the impact and healing process following suicide loss.
