Description
Funded by the APA Foundation, the Diversity Leadership Fellowship develops minority psychiatry residents and residents interested in minority and vulnerable populations into leaders equipped to teach, administer, and provide culturally competent, evidence-based mental health and substance abuse services. Its focus includes American Indian and Alaska Native, Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander, Black, Hispanic and Latino, LGBTQ, and religious minority populations.
The fellowship combines meeting sponsorship, leadership development, and participation in APA and APA Foundation governance. Fellows build professional networks with psychiatrists interested in minority mental health, engage with APA leaders, and establish peer-mentoring relationships with residents who share similar career interests. The program also advances fellows’ understanding of racial and ethnic minority communities’ life experiences.
