The Division 18 Research Grant is sponsored by the American Psychological Foundation (APF) and APA Division 18, Psychologists in Public Service. It supports research that advances public service, with particular interest in work by doctoral-level psychology students and early career psychologists. The program emphasizes research quality, impact, innovation, originality, contribution to the field, and empirical soundness.
Sharing findings is a central priority. Proposals must include dissemination and publication strategies targeting Division 18 members or audiences, while allowing broader communication beyond the division. Past funded work includes LGBTQIA+ suicide prevention gatekeeper training, caregiving support for underserved immigrant families, and dialectical behavior therapy skills groups examining recidivism and post-release functioning among people with borderline personality disorder in rural jails.
