    Description

The Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Surplus Engine Program transfers ownership of surplus DNR fire engines to eligible Washington fire districts. Authorized by RCW 76.04.135(4), the program serves districts in wildfire-prone areas with median income below the state average. DNR anticipates 11 surplus engines being available in 2026.

The program is part of DNR’s broader fire district assistance efforts, which help local and rural districts establish, develop, improve, and maintain their wildland firefighting capabilities. Improving these capabilities helps defend Washington against wildfire and makes equipment and other assistance more affordable. Available resources may change from year to year. All engines are offered “as is,” without a DNR warranty of condition or operability.
