Description
The Dog and Cat Sterilization Program (DCSP), administered by the Georgia Department of Agriculture, provides financial assistance for spaying and neutering dogs and cats throughout Georgia. It supports eligible rescue organizations, local government animal shelters, and veterinary medical foundations to increase sterilization procedures and reduce animal overpopulation and shelter overcrowding. The program’s intent is to reduce the number of animals reproducing, not to subsidize shelter adoption costs.
The grant program was created in 2014, following the Georgia General Assembly’s establishment of the Dog and Cat Reproductive Sterilization Support Program in 2003. Funding comes from specialty dog and cat license plates, Georgia tax-return contributions, and direct donations. Georgia veterinarians working with grant recipients have performed thousands of procedures since the program began.
