--- ## Description This scholarship honors Don B. Daily’s legacy by supporting students committed to advancing safety in the steel manufacturing industry. Administered by the Association for Iron and Steel Technology Foundation (AIST Foundation), the program provides up to two recipients with a paid summer internship at a North American steel-producing company or industry supplier, followed by a US$7,500 scholarship for the academic year. The initiative aims to foster the next generation of safety and industrial hygiene professionals, emphasizing the importance of workplace safety in the steel sector. --- ## Due Dates - October 3, 2025: All application materials (including required documents) must be submitted electronically. - October 14, 2025: Final application deadline for the 2026–2027 cycle. Scholarship recipients will be announced in December. --- ## Funding Amount - Up to two one-year awards are made each cycle. - Each recipient receives: - A paid summer internship at a North American steel company or industry supplier. - US$7,500 scholarship for the following academic year. - Award is contingent on satisfactory internship performance and maintaining a minimum 2.5 GPA. --- ## Eligibility - Must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student majoring in safety or industrial hygiene at an accredited North American university. - Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. - Must be a citizen of the USA, Canada, or Mexico. - Must commit to a paid summer internship at a qualifying steel company or industry supplier. - Application, essay, and recommendation letter should demonstrate a strong interest in safety within the steel manufacturing industry. --- ## Application Process Applicants must submit the following materials electronically by the deadline: - Current résumé including academic, work, extracurricular activities, and leadership positions. - Essay (max 2 pages) outlining professional goals, interest in industrial safety, and how skills could enhance the steel industry. - At least one recommendation letter (maximum five), ideally from a steel-related company representative or discipline-related professor, sent directly to the AIST Foundation Scholarship Committee. - Current academic transcript or official documentation of academic standing. **Application Evaluation:** - Steel Industry Interest: 35% - Grades: 20% - Recommendation Letters: 30% - Extra-Curricular Activities: 15% **Submission:** Applications should be submitted via the [AIST Foundation scholarship application portal](https://www.aist.org/students-faculty/scholarships/steel-intern-scholarships/application). --- ## Additional Information - Internship placements are coordinated by AIST, but recipients may also self-place at a qualified company (with pre-approval). - Acceptance of an internship not related to steel manufacturing, or rescinding an accepted offer, will result in disqualification. - Maintaining eligibility requires a satisfactory internship performance review and a minimum 2.5 GPA. --- ## External Links - [Don B.
