--- ## Description This grant provides up to $150,000 over two years to support early-career interventional radiology (IR) faculty members in the United States or Canada. The primary goal is to provide protected research time and resources, enabling recipients to pursue innovative research projects that position them for future major peer-reviewed funding (e.g., NIH grants). The program is designed to foster the next generation of academic leaders in interventional radiology. Participation in the proposal development and pre-review process is highly encouraged, offering applicants the opportunity to receive preliminary feedback from experienced reviewers or mentors before submitting their final application. --- ## Due Dates - Application opens: April 1, 2025 - Final application deadline: January 15, 2026, by 5:00 PM Eastern Time Applicants will be notified of award decisions by early April following the deadline. --- ## Funding Amount - Up to $150,000 total, distributed as $75,000 per year for two years. - Funds may be used toward the applicant’s salary and research costs. - Institutional indirect costs, construction expenses, and secretarial/office expenses are not funded. --- ## Eligibility Applicants must meet all of the following criteria: - Full-time faculty member at an accredited academic institution in the U.S. or Canada. - Within the first seven years of initial faculty appointment after completing all formal training. - Hold an MD, DO, PhD, or equivalent degree. - Must be a member of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR). - Not yet recognized as an independent investigator or recipient of major grant support (current grants exceeding $50,000, excluding internal institutional funding). - Hold a faculty position up to and including the assistant professor level at the time of application. - U.S. or Canadian citizens, permanent residents (documentation required), or individuals on a visa (must provide a departmental chair letter guaranteeing project completion). - Must have a minimum of 30% dedicated research time. - Only one application per institution per year. - Must have a mentor with documented research experience at the assistant professor level or higher. - Support from the applicant’s department chair is required. - No concurrent support through other SIR Foundation grants, and no scientific overlap with other funded proposals. **Multi-PI applications:** Allowed if institutional policy permits and a contact PI is designated. **Leadership restrictions:** SIR or SIR Foundation leaders (Board of Directors, Steering Council, Clinical Specialty Council, or committee chairs/vice chairs) are not eligible during their tenure. --- ## Application Process 1. **Proposal Development/Pre-Review:** Strongly encouraged; submit the Proposal Development Form or undergo a pre-review process to receive feedback before final submission. 2. **Application Submission:** Complete the application by the January 15, 2026 deadline via the [SIR Foundation application portal](https://apply.sirfoundation.org/prog/dr_ernest_j_ring_academic_development_grant/). 3. **Required Documents:** See [2024 Ring Grant Guidelines (PDF)](https://www.sirfoundation.org/media/5ukhnufc/2024-ring-grant-guidelines.pdf) for detailed instructions and requirements. 4. **Notification:** Applicants are typically notified of decisions by early April.
