Description
The Dr. Peter Roughley Award is presented by the Orthopaedic Research Society’s Spine Section to support a trainee and mentor exchange in spine, disc, and cartilage biology. It recognizes the mentor and trainee as a team while funding the trainee’s travel for research training. The exchange should provide a coherent and significant advance in the trainee’s research skills through work with a mentor whose expertise complements that of their current advisor or supervisor.
The award honors Peter Roughley’s contributions to proteoglycan research and understanding of disc and cartilage structure and function. It carries forward his commitment to teaching and training future scientists, with particular emphasis on mentors’ sustained contributions to diversity and inclusive excellence in musculoskeletal sciences.
