Description
The Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC) partners with the State of Saxony/Kulturstiftung des Freistaates Sachsen to offer an independent artist exchange with Columbus’ sister city, Dresden, Germany. Established in 1994, the program hosts two German artists in Columbus and sends two Columbus artists to Dresden each year. It extends GCAC’s support for local working artists by providing time away from everyday life for research and production of new work.
The residency emphasizes self-sufficient work in a foreign environment. Artists are encouraged to explore Dresden’s cultural projects, institutions, opportunities, and resources in relation to their proposed work and artistic careers. Participants spend most of the residency in Dresden and serve as representatives of GCAC and the City of Columbus.
